CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR 2012

SFBC FIELD TRIPS, Other Field Trips and Meetings

All Saturday field trips for 2012 will meet at the Outdoor Campus, 4500 S. Oxbow Ave., unless otherwise noted. This is located next to Sertoma Park. It is customary to car pool on field trips and traditional for riders to give the drivers a few dollars towards gas. Remember to bring binoculars and a field guide, if you have one. Please wear sturdy footwear and dress  as warmly as needed. Bring a friend. Beginners and experts alike are welcome. The field trips generally last until noon or slightly longer if birding is good.

Field trips are subject to change due to weather, and trip locations are often changed depending on where the birds are. Watch for e-mail notification.

Jan. 21, 2012 – Destination to be decided at when we meet. Possibly Big Sioux Rec area. Meet at Outdoor Campus at 8:00 am.

Feb. 15, 2012 – Winter business meeting at Outdoor Campus at 7:00pm. Presentation by Doug Chapman.

Feb. 18, 2012 – Field Trip – destination to be decided on when we meet. Possibly Perry Nature area, etc. Meet at Outdoor Campus at 8:00 am.

Mar. 24, 2012 – Field Trip – Look for migrating waterfowl. Meet at Outdoor Campus at 8:00 am.

April 21, 2012 – Field Trip – Look for migrating shorebirds and possibly early warblers. Meet at Outdoor Campus at 8:00 am.

May 12, 2012 – Field Trip – Look for warblers in migration. Beaver Creek and other possible destinations. Meet at Outdoor Campus at 7:00 am.

May 18-20, 2012 – Ft. Randall Birding Festival.

June 1-3, 2012 – SDOU Spring Meeting and field trips At Edgemont, SD.

June 9, 2012 – Field Trip to Newton Hills State Park – look for songbirds, ect. Meet at Outdoor Campus at 7:00 am.

July 7, 2012 – Field Trip – destination to be arranged – Meet at Outdoor Campus at 7:00 am.

August 18 – Field Trip – Look for shorebirds in migration etc. – Meet at Outdoor Campus at 7:00 am.

Sept. 8 – Field Trip – Look for fall warblers in migration – Great Bear Park – Meet at Outdoor Campus at 7:00 am.

Oct. 4, 2012 – Fall business meeting at Outdoor Campus at 7:00 pm.

Oct. 6, 2012 – Field Trip – destination to be arranged – Look for migrating grassland birds, etc. – Meet at Outdoor Campus at 8:00 am.

Nov. 3, 2012 – Field Trip to Big Sioux Rec. area – Meet at Outdoor Campus at 8:00 am.

Dec. 15, 2012 – Christmas Bird Count, Sioux Falls (tentative date)

Dec. 29, 2012 – Christmas Bird Count, Canton (tentative Date)
