There are many activities for birders that everyone can take part in, most are part of the citizen science aspect of birding.
Some of the activities include:

Operation SkyBird Watch
Simple rules:
  • On November first, watch the sky (not the trees or ground)
  • for a half hour (in the final two hours before sunset) and record all birds seen, including numbers, species, direction of movement, and approx. altitude. etc.
  • If species cannot be identified, put brief description
  • For species identified, send information to your e-bird account (set up a free citizen science reporting account if you do not have one yet) at
