Purpose: The Sioux Falls Bird Club is an organization founded to promote the enjoyment, study, and conservation of wild birds in The Sioux Falls region.

Membership Benefits: Members receive regular e-mail notices of bird sightings and information, meetings and opportunities.  Field trips in the area and state are planned for every month, along with special actvities such as the Christmas Bird Count and Backyard Bird Count. Birding abilities of members range from first-time birders and  backyard birders, to orinithologists.  Members activities, sightings, maps, and photos are placed on this website for all to share.  New members receive a window sticker for their car, and an official  membership pin for your hat or jacket with the official bird of the club, the Blue Grosbeak, on it.  See Illustration below.

Birding bumper sticker Owlet

Birding bumper stickers are $3 . The stickers are approx. 3X10 inches and are vinyl, removable, repositionable, and leave no sticky behind, so they work great on any flat solid surface like a car or a window.
For bumper stickers  or patches, include one dollar postage and handling with the cost.
Club Patches are $3 for non-members, $2 for SDOU members and $1 for SFBC members (additional patches for SFBC members are $2 each)

[Categories of Birding

Which category(s) are you (related to birding)

1. Beginning: Just started to take an interest in birding, but anxious to learn and do more.

2. Back Yard Birder- Occasional: Watch birds in the yard or at parks, but can't ID all species.

3. Back Yard Birder-Regular: Watch birds in the yard or at parks whenever possible, know most of the common birds in my area.

4. Hobby birder: Go to specific places to observe birds, know most birds of my area.

5. Organizational birder: Hobby birder who belongs to a birding organization, blog or listserv. Keeps a life list

6. Citizen scientist birder: Knows most birds, belongs to organizations, reports to data bases such as e-bird, and keeps a life list.

7.  Dedicated birder: Centers trips and activities around birding keeps a competitive life list. Knows all area birds, and most of their calls and habits.

8.  International birder: Travels the nation and world to find birds.

9.  Professional birder: Has a degree in ornithology or related field, has authored articles or books on birds, possibly a guide to certified birding expeditions, or teacher of bird related classes.

10. Blood Birder: Can be #8 or 9, but thrives on competition with other birders. Will spend endless hours and dollars to win a competition or find the next life bird.

Membership:
All those interested in wild birds are encouraged to join,no matter what your level of birding knowledge. Novices enjoy learning form veterans, and veterans enjoy the fresh energy and desire for birding knowledge from beginners.
 Membership is for one calendar year. The cost of membership is $5.  Send check payable to SFBC to:
